We don't believe in grand statements about sustainability. We believe in the small choices — the daily decisions that add up. For us, it's about running a hotel in balance with the place we're part of.
Bornholm is an island with limited resources and a natural environment that deserves care. That comes with responsibility. Here's what we do — and what we're working on.
Producers & suppliers
Local first
Our breakfast is built around Bornholm producers and Danish suppliers. The bread is baked with local flour. The cheese comes from the island's dairies. The fish is smoked locally. The honey is from Bornholm. The coffee is roasted in Svaneke.
By choosing local, we reduce transport and our carbon footprint — but it's about more than climate. It's about supporting the people and businesses that make Bornholm what it is. Every krone spent locally is an investment in the island's future.
Linen & towels
Swan-labelled laundry
All our bed linen and towels are washed by a Swan-labelled, sustainable laundry on Bornholm. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official sustainability label of the Nordic countries and sets strict requirements for chemicals, energy use, and water consumption.
By choosing a local laundry, we avoid long transport distances — and by choosing a Swan-labelled one, we ensure the process is as gentle on the environment as possible.
Cleaning
Less cleaning, greater impact
We don't clean rooms daily during your stay unless you ask us to. Instead, we offer cleaning between stays and on request. It's not a cost saving — it's a conscious choice.
Reduced cleaning delivers measurable results: approximately 30% savings on water consumption, 29% fewer chemicals, 25% lower energy use, and 40% reduction in waste. These are numbers that make a difference — especially over an entire season.
Bathroom & cleaning
Sustainable products
In the bathrooms, we use soaps, shampoo, and body lotion from brands that prioritise natural ingredients and sustainable production. We're continually working to find the best alternatives — products that are good for both our guests and the environment.
We also look at our cleaning products with the same critical eye, switching to more environmentally friendly alternatives as we find them.
The work continues
Sustainability is not a destination — it's a direction. We're continually exploring new possibilities: energy optimisation, further reduction of food waste, and collaboration with the island's other stakeholders on shared solutions.
