A place that remembers
The building rose in 1774. Since then it has seen kings and fishermen, artists and families. The walls are the same. The cobblestones in the courtyard are worn smooth by centuries of footsteps.
In 1851, King Frederik VII and Countess Danner spent the night here. Later the place became known as Byskrivergaarden. In the 1980s, Tom and Lisbeth Panduro opened the doors to guests from around the world.
Today the hotel is owned by Cathrine Andersen and Christian Rasmussen. From the 2026 season, daily operations are led by Madeleine Tejnby and Christian Milling — a couple with experience from boutique hotels spanning Vietnam to the Danish islands, and a deep passion for food, drink, and hospitality.
We received a MICHELIN Key in 2025, recognition of what we've always believed: that a stay should be felt, not just booked. That details matter. That slowness is a luxury.
The sea is meters away. The trees bloom in spring. Morning light falls through old windows. We look forward to seeing you.
The Hotel
Allinge Badehotel is a 24-room boutique hotel on the northern coast of Bornholm, a Danish island in the Baltic Sea. The building dates to 1774, making it one of the oldest surviving structures in Allinge. Every room has been renovated with furnishings by contemporary Danish designers, but the original timber framing, low ceilings, and sense of proportion remain.
Breakfast is organic and locally sourced, served each morning in the dining room or in the garden overlooking the sea. Guests have access to complimentary bicycles, a seaside garden with views east over the Baltic, and the sandy beach at Næs, a short walk south along the coast.
We are open from May through September.
Your hosts
Madeleine Tejnby and Christian Milling take over daily operations at Allinge Badehotel from the 2026 season. They bring a broad background from boutique hotels — from Vietnam to the Danish islands — combining international perspective with deep roots in the Danish badehotel tradition.
With strong expertise in food and beverage, they are reshaping the hotel's culinary profile. Breakfast is renewed with local baked goods, Bornholm cheeses, and smoked specialties. Byskriver Baren opens in the afternoon with a charcuterie board sourced from local producers, and in the evening, Restaurant Loftet's Honesty Lounge offers Bornholm tastings and selected wines.

The Badehotel Tradition
A badehotel is a type of seaside hotel unique to Denmark. The tradition began in the late 1800s, when Copenhagen's wealthier residents started traveling to the coast for fresh air, sea bathing, and quiet. Over time these small coastal hotels became cultural landmarks, known for their understated interiors, seasonal kitchens, and a pace of life built around the water.
Allinge Badehotel is part of that tradition. We are not a resort. There is no spa, no pool, no room service. What there is: a beautiful old building, the sea, good food, and time. For many guests, that turns out to be enough.
Bornholm
Bornholm sits in the Baltic Sea, closer to Sweden than to the rest of Denmark. It is sometimes called the sunshine island for its unusually long hours of light. The landscape is dramatic: granite cliffs in the north, white sand beaches in the south, forests and farmland between.
The island has a thriving food and craft scene. Bornholm is home to some of Denmark's best smokehouses, ceramicists, and glassblowers. Hammershus, Northern Europe's largest medieval fortress ruin, is a ten-minute drive from the hotel. The round churches at Østerlars and Nylars date to the 12th century. And then there is the light, which has drawn painters to the island for over a hundred years.
